- Exclusive ABS Styran action parts
The innovative use of ABS Styran in all of Kawai's pianos is one of the chief reasons why a Kawai piano will maintain stable touch and tone over time better than other pianos. Endorsed by leading piano technicians and proven superior in scientific tests, ABS Styran is supported by over thirty years of proven reliability in Kawai pianos.
- Action and hammers
The UST-7's Ultra-ResponsiveTM Direct Blow Upright Action is the most precise in the world. To make the action resistant to climatic and seasonal changes in temperature and humidity, Kawai pioneered the use of extruded aluminum action rails and aluminum hammer rest rails, as well as precision action parts made of extremely stable, low-friction ABS Styran.
- Keyboard
The UST-7 keyboard features key surfaces of molded phenolic resin. Keys are weighted and balanced, with touch weight and key dip conforming to industry standards.
- Tuning pins
UST-7 tuning pins are 64mm in length and manufactured to rigid specifications with nickel-plated carbon steel. Kawai's precision thread-cutting process produces a pin with tremendous "reverse grip" holding power.
- Bridges
The UST-7 features bridges made of hard select maple. Bridges are carefully secured to the soundboard with multiple joinery processes including specially selected glue, screws and soundboard buttons.
- Strings
The UST-7 scale requires the finest steel music wire and bass strings that are wrapped with solid copper. The speaking length of the longest string is 44 7/8".
- Soundboard
The soundboard begins with matched pieces of select solid Sitka spruce. In conjuction with Kawai's unique "Drying/Re-Moisturizing Process," ten shaped spruce ribs are fastened to the soundboard in a curved press to create a permanent crown. The long bridge is "arch cut" 5mm to add lifetime support to the crown. The surfaces of the soundboard and ribs are protected with fine varnish that provides long-term protection while maintaining the flexibility necessary to produce full tonal resonance. Soundboard area: 2,062" square.
- Back, pinblock and plate
The muliple ply, cross-banded rock maple pinblock in securely anchored to a five-post back assembly. The entire assembly is further solidified by an extra-heavy cast iron plate that provides the rigidity necessary for long-term tuning stability in all climates.
- Casters and locks
To meet all school specifications, the UST-7 is equipped with four double-wheel, ball bearing casters. The double locking system, which secures both the lid and the fallboard, helps keep the instrument safe and secure.
