In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, a small number of master workshops in Markneukirchen, Germany distinguished themselves by developing some of the best varnishes of the modern era. The varnish Eastman uses on their model 405 instruments emulates these exceptional varnishes from a century ago.

The Samuel Eastman model 100 cellos have become a staple of string programs everywhere. Outstanding features include beautiful, select tonewoods, genuine hand-inlaid purfling, and a glowing amber-brown varnish that is durable as well as attractive. These fully carved instruments provide quality of sound and craftsmanship to beginning and advancing players.

A premium step-up instrument with a hand-carved and tonally adjusted top of well-seasoned spruce and select flamed maple back and sides, varnished in a shaded, slightly antiqued finish.  Ebony fingerboard, tailpiece, trim and tuning pegs.  Set up with Glaesel custom chinrest and Thomastik Dominant strings with E-string fine tuner.  Outfit includes fully lined brazilwood bow with wire wrapping, leather grip, and horsehair, obling case, and Glaesel amber rosin (see product details).
